The Subject series offers insight into the riding of Chambly, Québec. Specifically, the fonds looks at the many concerns of the constituents in their day to day life and of their provincial well being. Documents show Phil Edmonston's work with individuals at the riding level, on a case by case basis. Phil Edmonston may be best known for his annual publication, "The Lemon-Aid Used Car Guide. Papers in this series show where information was garnered, and the types of defects in automobiles that consumers should expect to find. Specific cases are documented, and many secret warranties are disclosed. The Canadian constitutional series offers the researcher a look into Canada's ongoing constitutional crisis and some of the causes, problems, and solutions surrounding the dilemmas of Québec nationalists and the Enlish-Canadian left. Phil Edmonston opposed the Constitutional Accord on the basis that he was voting for his constituents and that this agreement was not in their best interests. To do this Phil Edmonston had to vote against his Party. His profound disagreements with the NDP and its policymakers led to his not running in 1993, and to his prediction that the Party would be decimated in the 1993 election.
The fonds also contains photographs depicting events during Edmonston's political career, including photos of Audrey McLaughlin, Stanley Knowles, Bob Rae, Lucienne Robillard, Rachel Mercier, Daniel De Brower, and Karen Walsh, 1977-1993.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Edmonston, Louis-Philippe, 1944- : Phil Edmonston graduated from both the Canal Zone College and Bowie State College (Maryland).
