Documentary on commercial air transportation. Numerous airport scenes introduce the documentary: Boeing 727's, DC-8's, Boeing 707's from eastern, Braniff, T.W.A., National, Continental, Northeast, Delta, United, etc. Take-off, taxi, are serviced, take on passengers. Views of Miami terminal with a Pan American Airlines plane parked in front, taking on passengers. Elsewhere, cargo planes are loaded with freight. Passengers take luggage from belt. Cut to Tacoma, Washington terminal, ticket agents. Ditto Los Angeles. Telephones are introduced into the picture. A man calls his family. Cuts to many other telephone users. The role of communications in the management of air lines is looked at: reservation by computer, flight planning, passenger tally, communications between pilots and control tower at O'Hare Airport. Aircraft take-off is seen from cockpit and from camera postion underneath the plane. Seq. on monitoring of flight by radar, exchanges of information between pilots and controllers. Cut to TWA Ford Trimotor on ground and in flight, man using old-fashioned wall telephone. Aerials of airports and final sequence of landing seen from underneath aircraft. <27mn 25s>
