Service grinder for griding small tools (grinding section of production tool room). Internal grinder for grinding a bore, gives off shower of sparks. Redial drill - 15' high, weighs several tons - squeaks at end as bit is withrdawn - drilling a big casting - vertically - 1" bit. Boring mill or vertical lathe - 10' high, weighs 10 tons. Hydraulic tracer -tracing an inner core using CO2 or dry ice to keep tool and work very cold - gives high pitched whistle. Pacemaker tracer lather - high speed turning - conturing the inner form of compressor casing made of magnesium alloy. Horizontal boring mill, fly-cutting joint face of compressor casing, smoothing rough edge of each half for a perfect fit. Vertical cutting lather - turning and boring intake casting of magnesium. Air drill, cleaning up rough spots on alloys - starts and stops intermittently, 110,000 RPM. Vertical tracer lather, .25 secs, starts, runs, stops - stopped by magnetic brake - this contours steel on engine rotor assembly. Vertical tracer lather - doing a heavier cut. Horizontal tracer lather - finishes contouring stator case rings and spacers of main compressor casing. Pneumatic gun, hammering lock washers and rivet gun, fitting roman insters into stator case. Interview in German of Ernst Waengler and Mr. S.C. Farbairn Assistant to the Training Manager at AVRO. Jet warming up. Five CF-100s flying overheard at 1000 feet. Five CF-100s flying overhead at 500 feet.
