Speakers included Prime Minister Paul Martin, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken, and former judge and MP John Matheson, who was largely responsible for the creation of the red and white maple leaf flag.
