Fonds consists of personal correspondence relating primarily to Borden's wartime activities as General Counsel to the War Supply Board and to the Department of Munitions and Supply, and as Chairman of the Wartime Industries Control Board, 1937-1975; correspondence between A.G.L. McNaughton, Charles P. McTague and Borden concerning McNaughton's possible adherence to the Progressive Conservative Party, 1944, 1972; speeches by Borden, Donald Gordon, C.D. Howe, J.L. Ilsley and others on the wartime controls program, 1940-1943; Borden family papers, 1898-1979; memoirs of Henry Borden, 1978-1979-1983; and memoirs of Dr. Bruce Macdonald of University of Toronto, 1953.

Borden, Henry, 1901-1989 : Henry Borden, businessman and public servant, was born in Halifax and educated at McGill, Dalhousie and Oxford. He served as General Counsel to the War Supply Board, 1939 to 1940 and to its successor, the Department of Munitions and Supply, 1940 to 1942. From 1942 to 1943 he was Chairman of the War Industries Control Board. He was President and then Chairman of Brazilian Traction Light and Power Co., 1946-1966, and President and Chairman of the British Newfoundland Corporation (Brinco), 1965-1969. He held directorships in Brascan, Barclay's Bank (Canada) and other companies as well as serving as Vice-Chairman and Chairman, 1947-1968, of the Board of Governors of the University of Toronto. A nephew of Sir R.L. Borden, he edited the elder Borden's memoirs, 1938 and letters 1971. He was created C.M.G. in 1943. See: Canadian Encyclopedia, p. 203.
