Jewitt, Allen E., Sr., 1934 - : Woodsman rehabilitation counsellor

Allen E. Jewitt, Sr. (b. 1934), of Hamburg, N.Y., U.S.A., embarked on a university course in rehabilitation counselling, following a leg amputation which ended his career as a woodsman. An elective course in immigration history led to a research paper on his own descent from Canadian immigrants to Grand Island, N.Y., which in its turn led to a great enthusiasm for genealogical research. As a result of this interest, he spent four years transcribing from the early civil registers of Erie County, N.Y., all the marriages he could find in which either the bride or groom claimed Canada as a place of birth or residence. He later extended this search for Canadians in Erie County to the census records.

Jewitt, Sr.; a shelf list; and a partially integrated index to the material prepared from the transcriber's own individual indexes found at the end of each section of the collection. The researcher should note that the version of the finding aid which appears on microfilm reel C-3046 refers to the thirteen books of the collection as files. MSS1433 (Restrictions not set)
