Young, Hugh Andrew, b. 1898 : Hugh Andrew Young, public servant and military officer, born in 1898 at Winnipeg, Man., received his education from the University of Manitoba, B. Sc. in electrical engineering, 1924. He served with the 44th Canadian Infantry Battalion in World War I. He joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1924 and served with them in the Arctic and sub-Arctic. He attended Staff College, Camberley, England 1933-34 and proceeded overseas upon the outbreak of war in 1939. He served in various staff and command appointments during World War II. On his promotion to Major General in 1944 he was appointed Quartermaster General of the Canadian Army.

After the war he was appointed Vice-President of Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation 1946, then Deputy Minister of Resources and Development and Commissioner of the Northwest Territories in 1950. From 1953 to 1963 he was Deputy Minister of Public Works.
