Series consists of a set of registers identifying the service personnel by service number, rank, unit, date of casualty, headquarters file number, religon, circumstance of casualty, location of casualty and reported location of burial. Known as the "brown binders", the registers were maintained by Records Office of the Overseas Ministry, with the burial information contained forward to Militia and Defence Headquarters.

It should be noted that these registers do not indicate the final place of burial if there was a change in the location of the grave. For this information the researcher should refer to the sub-series known as the "black binders" within the Directorate of Records in the Department of National Defence fonds.

The War graves registers in this series were prepared in the records office of the Ministry of the Overseas Military Forces of Canada.

Arrangement note:

The records in this series were initially part of a large accession (1992-93/314), from which only these volumes are arranged and described in this fonds. The other records from this accession are arranged and described under the Directorate of Records series in the National Defence fonds.
