Editorial cartoons and general humour single-panel and strip cartoons by Ed Huxtable, dating predominantly 1940-1948. The editorial works include a number of cartoons which chronicle World War II events and which were published in the Globe and Mail. Several lampoon Hitler and his closest advisors as well as other principal players including Francisco Franco, Benito Mussolini and Winston Churchill. Canadian personalities include William Lyon Mackenzie King, Arthur Meighen, Mitchell Hepburn, George Henry and George Drew. Federal, provincial and local Toronto subjects include the economy, the introduction of social programs such as health and unemployment insurance and baby bonuses, elections and federal-provincial relations. General humour cartoons focus on fictional situations and personalities in a small Ontario town. Also included are profiles, with both portraits and biographical information, on prominent hockey and sports personalities of Huxtable's day. Many of the works were also syndicated and appeared in a number of Canadian newspapers. The works have been arranged by subject. The acquisition was made on 27 October 1997.
