File consists of photographs documenting the survey of 1871 for the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway from Fort Garry, Manitoba to Jasper House, Alberta. Included are images of Prairie life before the railway and earlier photographs of Moose Factory, Ont. 1864-69. The majority of the photographs are probably by Charles Horetzky, but 2 photographs are attributed to Alexander Henderson, 2 are attributed to the Outlook Studio and one to James L. Cotton.

Contains several photos of tipis (teepees), Red River carts, carrioles and dogs, and depictions of First Nations camps, specifically Nehiyawak (Cree), a group of Piikani at Rocky Mountain House, and a suspension bridge created by Wet'suwet'en people.
