Fonds consists of oral history interviews with veterans of the Royal Canadian Navy about their experiences in World War II. The interviews are part of a series of oral histories created by Ryan entitled Seasoned sailors : talking with senior survivors of Canada's wartime navy.

Ryan, David Patrick, 1923- : David Patrick Ryan was born in 1923. In the 1990s, retired Captain Ryan developed, produced and directed a program entitled Seasoned sailors: talking with senior survivors of Canada's wartime navy. The program was created to capture the lives of the wartime navy veterans before they had passed forever from the scene. Ryan made hour-long videos of a number of veterans, having them recount their wartime experiences in the Canadian Navy, and made several remarkable videos of a number of admirals. Ryan was awarded both the 1999 Admiral's Medal, and the Maritime Commanders' Commendation for his efforts in producing the Seasoned sailors.
