Sub-series consists of pension and grant records relating to veterans of the North West Rebellion. The sub-series includes correspondence regarding the issuing of scrip (Vol. 1); an index to pension claims (Vol. 17); records of the War Claims Commission, consisting of a record of claims numbered from 690 to 861 (Vol. 22); evidence received on transport service claims (Vol. 22); an index to letters received (Vol. 22); a record of the proceedings of the commissioners (Vol. 23); correspondence and reports to the Minister of Militia from the Commissariat at Winnipeg, April to June 1885 (Vol. 24); letterbooks, September 1885 to November 1886 of the War Claims Commission (Vols. 24-25; reels T-283 and T-284) and reports of the Commission (Vols. 26-27).

Land warrants and money scrip were issued to all members of the militia (later this also included scouts, the crew of the Northcote, and medical staff, see 49 Vic., c. 29, 1886) who were actively engaged west of Port Arthur in the suppression of the Métis and Indian rebellion of 1885. Under authority of 48-49 Vic., c. 73, 1885, militia members were entitled to two adjoining quarter sections (320 acres) in any even numbered section of unoccupied Dominion lands opened for homestead entry. The grant was subject to the conditions that entry was filed by August 1, 1886, and that the grantee had begun to reside upon and cultivate the land within six months after the deadline (this deadline was later extended through a series of Acts to December 31, 1908, see 6 Edw., c. 30, 1906). The grant was also subject to all the terms and conditions of homestead required by the Dominion Lands Act (35 Vic., c. 23, 1872).
