La Loche is a village in northwest Saskatchewan on Lac La Loche. At Lac La Loche's northern end is the Methyl Portage or Portage La Loche. Fur trade brigades such as the Portage La Loche Brigade from Fort Garry arrived from the south while the Athabasca and Mackenzie brigades came from the north. These brigades distributed provisions to the numerous posts along their routes while the furs were transported to York Factory on the Hudson Bay for shipment to England.
The Métis are the larger population in the northern village of La Loche, with the Dene making up the larger population on the nearby Clearwater River Dene Nation.

This item consists of two pages (folio 44 verso and 45 recto) of a bound sketchbook, which can also be accessed in cover-to-cover form. Both pages have been squared for transfer.

Inscribed. There are indecipherable inscriptions on folio 46 recto, pressed into the page without the use of graphite., Inscription: in pen and brown ink, from bottom of folio 46 recto to top, in the direction of the journey: "Pambina R; Portage; Methye R; Portage; Methye Lake; methye portage; Portage la loche; Clearwater R; Whitemud portage; Cascade portage; Pine Port; Forks; R la titche; Clear Water River; Red Willow R; Mountains on both sides"; (Partial transcription)
