C ("C"). The American Revolution has severed the interests of the colonies from those of the mother country, and the Catholics of America from those of England. As no fixed revenues for the clergy are to be found in the United States, they are to be sought in France. In the United States there are no colleges that may prepare new ecclesiastics. A French bp. living in France could act in agreement with the N. [in France] and the appointed American minister and oversee the selection of the [new] clergy. B: 307rv.
