Fonds consists of a manuscript entitled Canada's Great Northern Heritage, intended to be a supplement to Stewart's book, Down The Mackenzie and Up the Yukon in 1906 (London, 1913); notes on various aspects of northern resource development.

Stewart, Elihu, 1844-1935 : Elihu Stewart, surveyor, timber expert and public servant, was born in Ontario. He became a Dominion land surveyor in 1872, and worked for several years on Crown surveys in Ontario, and the Northwest Territories. He served as Dominion Commissioner on the Ontario - Manitoba boundary survey. From 1897 to 1907, Stewart acted as Superintendent of the Forestry Branch of the Department of the Interior, resigning to enter the lumber business. He became director of a number of lumber companies. He served as president of both the Ontario Land Surveyors Association and the Canadian Forestry Association, and was a founder of the Canadian Magazine. He authored several works on forestry and resource management including Down the Mackenzie and Up the Yukon, in 1906 (London, 1913).
