They have 3 children: Jean’s 14-year-old daughter Molly and younger son Michael and Dave’s six-year-old daughter Heather, who has not spoken since a fire killed her mother. Upon exploring their new land, the kids discover an old cemetery behind their home and Heather becomes obsessed with a tombstone bearing her initials. Heathers behaviour becomes unsettling as she develops a toxic friendship with what Molly suspects to be the spirit of a young girl who also lost her parents in a tragic fire over a hundred years ago. Molly seems to be the only one who sees this and tries to alert Jane and Michael, to no avail.
