Columbo; and biographical material including twelve photographs of Waclaw Iwaniuk.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Iwaniuk, Waclaw, 1915- : Waclaw Iwaniuk, born in Warsaw, was educated in Warsaw and at Cambridge. He served in the diplomatic corps of the Polish Republic and during World War II was an officer in the Polish Army. In 1948, he immigrated to Canada. Iwaniuk is one of the most outstanding Polish poets and writers outside Poland. Among his works are a long poem, Purpurowy rejs (Purple Trip) and several books of poetry: Czas Don Kichota (Time of Don Quixote), 1946; Dni biale i dni czerwone (Red and White Days), 1947; Piesn nad piesniami (Song of Songs), 1953; Milczenia (Stillness), 1959; Wybor wierszy (Selected Poems), 1964; Ciemny Czas (The Dark Times), 1968; and Lustro (The Mirror), 1971.
Iwaniuk has translated some of his own works into English and the works of various American and English poets into Polish. In addition, he is a literary critic and essayist for various Polish newspapers in Canada and abroad.
