Maclean, W. F. (William Findlay), 1854-1929 : William Findlay MacLean, journalist, member of the House of Commons, was born in 1854 at Ancaster, Canada West, and received his education from the University of Toronto. He was both a well-known journalist who established the Toronto World in 1880 and a prominent politician who sat in the House of Commons as a Conservative Member for York East and South York from 1892 to 1925. He was a persistent advocate of public ownership of railways and other franchises.
