1 photograph b&w.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of two letters from Craven Langstroth Betts, the Maritime writer who co-authored Tales of a Garrison Town, 1892, with Arthur Wentworth Eaton before moving to the United States. The letters refer to an anthology of Canadian poetry Betts was working on, to his poem "A Star in the Dark" which he wanted distributed to various Cananadian literary figures (a presentation copy is included in the papers), and to Bourinot's poetry.
The fonds contains a copy of a photograph of Duncan Campbell Scott and Rupert Chawner Brooke in Mr. Scott's garden, Ottawa, Ont., 1913.
The fonds also contains a half-length painted portrait by Robert Hyndman (1915-) of Arthur S. Bourinot in academic robes, ca.1956.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Bourinot, Arthur S. (Arthur Stanley), 1893-1969 : Arthur Bourinot, lawyer and poet, was born in Ottawa, the son of Sir John and Isabelle Bourinot. After studying at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall, Toronto, he returned to Ottawa to practise law. He published many collections of poetry during his lifetime, including Under the Sun, 1939, which won the Governor General's literary award. He was editor of Canadian Poetry Magazine, 1948-1954, 1965-1968, and Canadian Author and Bookman, 1953-1954. He died in Ottawa.
