Nicholson concerning the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and the New Democratic Party and his position as National Treasurer, transcript, 1977.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Nicholson, Alexander Malcolm, b. 1900 : Alexander Malcolm Nicholson, born in 1900 at Lucknow, Ont., received his education from the University of Saskatchewan, B.A., and the University of Edinburgh. Prior to his interest in politics he served as a Minister of the United Church of Canada at Hudson Bay Junction, Sask., and farmed in Sturgis, Sask. In 1935 Nicholson became an organizer for the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.). He served as the Party's National Treasurer in 1942, and from 1944 to 1950.
Although he ran unsuccessfully in 1935, Nicholson was elected C.C.F. Member of Parliament for Mackenzie in 1940. He was re-elected in 1945, defeated in 1949, and re-elected in 1953 and 1957. After defeat in 1958, Nicholson left federal politics. In 1960 and in 1964 he was elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for Saskatoon City. From 1960 to 1964 he served as Minister of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation. Nicholson was defeated in the provincial election in 1967.
