The fonds also contains a photographic portrait of Fr. Dandurand, Oblate, St. Boniface, Man., 1920; and unidentified portraits of a lawyer or judge wearing a wig (possibly Edward Murphy, brother of Senator Charles Murphy), 1935.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Connolly, John Joseph, 1906-1982 : John Joseph Connolly, born in 1906 at Ottawa, Ont., received his education from the University of Ottawa, Queen's University, The University of Notre-Dame, and the University of Montreal. He was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre-Dame from 1928 until 1931. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1934 and practised law with Messrs. Audette and O'Brien Montreal before being called to the Ontario Bar in 1935 and practising law with Messrs. Clark, Robertson, Macdonald and Connolly at Ottawa.
John J. Connolly was Executive Assistant to the Minister of National Defence, Naval Service, 1941-1945, and served the Hon. Angus L. Macdonald and briefly the Hon. Douglas C. Abbott in this capacity. In 1945 he resumed his law practice with Messrs. Clark, Macdonald, Connolly, Affleck, Brocklesby and Gorman. John J. Connolly was summoned to the Senate of Canada in 1953 and served as a member of several Parliamentary delegations to N.A.T.O. meetings between 1959 and 1961. He was appointed a Member of the Privy Council in 1964. He was Leader of the Government in the Senate from 1964 to 1968.
