War Office 42 consists of 73 bundles of certificates most of which were formerly enclosures to letters addressed to the Secretary at War's Office. The National Archives has acquired microfilm copies of certificates of birth, baptism, marriage and death, with wills, administrations, statements of service and personal papers of officers of the King's German Legion and British American Regiments and of their families, in cases where the officer died on service or on half-pay and his widow applied for a pension or application was made for a child's compassionate allowance. The microfilmed originals are available on microfilm reels B-4682 to B-4694.
