Admiralty 49 consists of 176 volumes and bundles of miscellaneous papers from the period 1658 to 1862. Most of the papers were generated by the Navy Board (see MG 12 ADM 106), transferred to the Accounting Department of the Admiralty when the Navy Board was abolished in 1832, and later deposited in the Public Record Office with the records of the Accountant General's Office. The papers in ADM 49 are concerned with administrative matters relating to claims, contracts, estimates, instructions to various officials and yards, officer establishments, rates of sea pay, building and repair of ships, signal stations, stores, transports, victualling, naval yards, pensions, and held pay.

The copies acquired by the National Archives of Canada include registers, accounts and receipts, orders, claims, lists and returns of ships and personnel, warrants, and abstracts of correspondence; with respect to transport service, surveys of naval timber, prizes, hemp cultivation, and salaries; in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and the Great Lakes. Microfilmed material is located on microfilm reels B-2313 to B-2316. Transcripts, 5 pages.

Textual records (Papier) Finding Aid 90 is a microfilm shelf list. The List of Admiralty Records, for which an amended version is available on reel B-1465, identifies the volumes of Adm 49. The pages listing Adm 49 are also available on reel B-2313. MSS0090 (90: Ouvert)
