3 photographs, b&w.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of papers of Tadeusz Romer relating to his career and professional interests which he collected during his career and papers documeting the history of his family.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Romer, Tadeusz, . 1894-1978 : Born in an old Polish family in the part of Poland then subject to Russia, Tadeusz Romer, diplomat and professor, was educated at the universities of Lausanne and Fribourg. During peace negotiations following World War I he was the secretary of Roman Dmowski, the First Delegate of the Polish Government. Subsequently, Romer entered the diplomatic service of Poland and was Poland's Minister Plenipotentiary in Lisbon (1935-1937), Ambassador to Japan (1937-1941), Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. (1942-1943), and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Polish Government-in-Exile in London (1943-1944). He came to Canada in 1948 and joined the staff of the Department of Romance Languages, McGill University. While at McGill, he taught a special course on the French language in modern diplomacy and international protocol.
Following the war, Romer played a leading role in the Polish émigré community and Polish Canadian society in a variety of capacities in such prominent institutions as the Polish Council of National Unity and the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America, Canadian Branch.
