Canada. Canadian Forces Station (Holberg, B.C.) : Holberg began operations in 1954 and was initially manned by 501 Aircraft and Warning Squadron. In 1963 it was integrated into the SAGE system and the station was redesignated as CFS Holberg on 10 August 1967. As a unit of Air Defence Command the role of Holberg was to collect, process and disseminate radar data to designated SAGE/BUIC agencies as well as providing SAGE control agencies with Time Division Data Link communications. CFS Holberg was under the operational control of CINCNORAD through the Commander 25 NORAD Region. In 1972 Holberg was given the added responsibility of developing and implementing a viable Autonomous Air Defence Operation Plan. On 2 September 1975 the station was transferred to Air Defence Group. CFS Holberg was further allocated to Fighter Group and slowly phased out by 1989. The station was closed in 1990 and disbanded January 1991.
