Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Telecommunications and Electronics Branch and its predecessors. The series includes radio and telecommunications central registry files, radio log samples, and files related to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Canadian Marconi Company, and the West Coast Radio Workshop.

Series also includes plans of telecommunications equipment and operating houses across Canada.

Biographie/Histoire administrative :

Canada. Dept. of Transport. Telecommunications and Electronics Branch : In 1936, the Radio Division, as part of the Department of Transport's Air Services, was responsible for the administration of national, international and regional radio laws and regulations; the construction, operation and maintenance of radio aids to maritime and aeronautical navigation; and the investigation and suppression of interference with broadcast reception. During the Second World War, the Radio Division was separated from Air Services to act as a stand alone branch. In 1948, the Government Telegraph and Telephone System was transferred to the Radio Division from the Department of Public Works and the Radio Division once again became part of Air Services. The Radio Division was responsible for the regulation, licensing and inspection of commercial and amateur radio stations, including the early operations of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1950, the Radio Division was renamed Telecommunications Division and later changed to the Telecommunications and Electronics Branch (TEB). The division was also charged with operating and maintaining government owned radio stations and beacons. The TEB was transferred to the newly-formed Department of Communications in 1969.
