MacLaren, Roy, 1934- : Politician, Cabinet Minister.

Roy MacLaren was born in Vancouver in 1934. Educated at the University of British Columbia, Cambridge University, and the University of Toronto, he worked in the foreign service from 1957 to 1969.

In 1979, following a career in business, he entered federal politics, winning a seat in the House of Commons. Re-elected in 1980, he was defeated in 1984 and then re-elected in 1988 and 1993. He served as the Minister of State for Finance in 1983 and as the Minister of National Revenue in 1984. He was later Minister for International Trade from 1993 until his resignation in 1996, when he was appointed as a Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on International Trade prior to becoming, in July 1996, the High Commissioner for Canada to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
