This fonds consists of the following six series: Alphabetic and thematic correspondence files; Correspondence with cabinet colleagues and Prime Minister; Policy files of the Minister's Office; Minister's Office correspondence with other departments; National Capital Commission files; and Major federal government property files. All series, except the Minister's Office correspondence with other departments series, have overlap between McInnes' two major cabinet portfolios, the Department of Supply and Services and the Department of Public Works.

McInnes, Stewart, 1937 : Stewart Donald McInnes was born 24 July 1937 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was educated at Ashbury College, and then studied at the Universities of Ottawa (1951-1953) and Dalhousie (1954-1961), after which he practiced law in Halifax.

He was first elected to the House of Commons in the general federal election of 1984. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for International Trade. Sworn to the Privy Council on 20 August 1985, he assumed the portfolio of Minister of Supply and Services. On 30 June 1986, he became Minister of Public Works and Minister Responsible for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Defeated in the general federal election of 1988, he returned to private legal practice in Halifax.
