Recherche dans la collection - Publications from the CN Library [textual record]

This accession consists, in part, of publications from the CN Library which was located at headquarters in Montreal. The is also a vinyl record of the inauguration of the Montreal Railway Station in 1943. Some records relate to the design of ads, posters and flyers for the CN Company from the 1960's to the 1980's. There are also some blue prints and maps. One, dated 1884 shows overhead bridges for the Northern and Pacific Junction Railway. Another, dated 1870, shows the difference in height between different train stations in Quebec and Ontario. This accession also contains some ledgers dated from 1920's to 1950's on various topics such as reports of equipment added or converted and a list of cars utilized by CN.

This very eclectic accession seems to be, in part, publications from the CN Library. The library opened in 1961 at CN Headquarters in Montreal and was accessible by all CN employees. Due to a lack of space and a need for profitability, the library was down-sized and moved to smaller premises. Its last location was 1060 Belmont Street in Montreal. For the same reasons, CN decided to close the library permanently in 1998-99. The publications were first held in the CN archives, then transferred to Library and Archives Canada in 2000.
