Recherche dans la collection - Post Office history record cards of Public Affairs and correspondence files of the Second Registry System [textual record: (microform)]

Consists of microfiche copies of the postal history record cards that were created by the Public Affairs (later Public Relations) Department. The cards relate to open and closed civilian and military post offices located across Canada, and include such elements as: name of place, date of establishment, date of closing, name of postmaster, military status, dates of birth, appointment and vacancy, cause of vacancy and location changes of the post office.
Also includes microfiche copies of correspondence sent/received at the Office of the Administrative Services during the Second World War. The records are titled 'War Series 1939-45' and cover a wide range of subject concerning mail delivery during wartime. These include as examples: treatment of dead letter mail, service suspensions, contraband control, ATFERO service, R.A.F., censorship, prohibited exports, trading with the enemy, military camps in Canada, P.O.W. (Prisoner-of-war) mail, Red Cross shipments and the like.

These records were found during a re-organization at Canada Post Corporation Headquarters; there was no creator documentation/file lists with the records when transferred to the Archives.
