General note:

Accession consists of plans collected by Appleton in his capacity as Marine Historian for Transport Canada.
These ships plans were collected from the record holdings of Transport Canada, such as the Office of Steamship Inspection. Others probably were copied from archival repositories in the United Kingdom and Canada although the items are not stamped to show ownership of originals.
There is also one print of the proposed new style for the Canadian Coast Guard crest.

Architectural, technical - drawings: Item, microfiche, and Transport Canada Library call numbers are written in pencil on verso., Architectural, technical - drawings: Items #10-12, 33, 42-44 are stamped: Dept. of Transport, Board of Steamship Inspection.

Note on the state of conservation:

Architectural, technical - drawings: Some of the blueline prints are fading.

Custodial history:

Accession was transferred in Nov. 1982 from the Federal Archives Division, accession 80-81-015. The Appleton collection was in the custody of the Transport Canada Library before being transferred to the FED.

Language note:

The text of items #49-53 is in German. There is an English translation in the finding aid.

Scales [1:48] and [1:96].
