Accession consists of seven series of cartographic records divided as such:

A. Plane table and compilation sheets for military surveys across Canada dated 1906 to 1947 (items numbered 1 to 1577);

B. Plotting and plane table sheets for fifteen topographical surveys (206 maps total) dating 1902-1951;

C. Plans and surveys from work undertake by the Legal Surveys Division and the International Boundary Commission in Alberta and British Columbia (items numbered 1578 to 1593);

D. Two registers from the Astronomic Branch of the Department of the Interior. The first is a register of plans, maps and field notes (1925) and the second relates to astronomical fixes by map number;

E. As estimated 6000 positive prints of horizontal photography forming part of the field data on mapping projects throughout Canada dating from 1900-1962;

F. An estimated 500 positive prints of scenic views taken by surveyors in the field throughout Canada dating from 1900-1936 (this material was transferred to the photo section and is now accession 1989-172).

G. As estimated 1500 positive prints of horizontal photographs taken by field officers (Mapping and Charting Establishment of Dept. of National Defence) on military surveys dating from 1947-1955.

Transferred to the National Archives of Canada by the Data Services Section, Geodetic Surveys, Canada Centre for Surveying, in 1989.
