The series consists of general correspondence, and related memoranda, much of it conducted by president Ayanna Black, general managers Angela Lee and Marva Ollivierre, and research assistant Dawn Carter. It includes correspondence with governmental bodies, other organisations and institutions, as well as with members. Some of the institutions represented include the Art Gallery of Ontario, Banff Centre for the Arts, Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia, Harbourfront, National Ballet of Canada, Ontario Black History Society, Playwrights Union of Canada and Toronto Theatre Alliance. Other correspondents include the African Studies Association, A Space, Black Business and Professional Association, and the Black Film and Video Network. Members' correspondence includes letters from writer George Elliott Clarke. Among the subjects covered in the series is the controversy surrounding a production of 'Showboat'. In addition, the series contains articles of incorporation and material on the history of CAN:BAIA as a non-profit organisation; issues of CAN:BAIA's newsletter 'Word-Up'; reports including the 'Black Artists on Access Report - Strategies for Change' and 'Funding Cuts in the Arts'; membership and mailing lists; and memorabilia.
