Canada. Dept. of the Secretary of State. Clerk of the Crown in Chancery : Occasionally, the Secretary of State would assume auxiliary functions in addition to the Department's primary functions, one of which was the appointment of the Deputy Registry General as the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery. The principal functions of the office of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery were to issue writs for elections, prepare returns, prepare commissions appointing senators and issue proclamations for the opening and prorogations of Parliament.
