Fonds consists of photographs by Iroquois photographer Jeffrey M. Thomas from the series "Strong Hearts: Portraits from the Powwow Dancing Grounds" featuring Native powwow dancers. This fonds is one of the first portfolios acquired as an example of contemporary photographic practice by Aboriginal photographers.

Thomas, Jeffrey, 1956- : Jeffrey M. Thomas, Iroquois photographer. Thomas has been based in Ottawa since 1993, working with historical collections in Native photography at Library and Archives Canada. His provocative reconsideration of the images constructed by non-Native makers salvages their discredited value from the wastebin of revisionist analysis to suggest new possibilites for the reclamation of memory and history for Native researchers and audiences.
