Collection search - Distant Early Warning Line siting reports of the Deputy Minister's Office registry system [textual record]

Accession consists of 33 siting reports of DEW Line sites under consideration. The reports include standard information regarding the description of the site, construction material required, location and orientation, communications needs, airstrip, roads, acquisition of land, etc. The printed report also includes plates depicting the geographic location, photographs, master plan, vicinity amp, layout plan and runway profile.

There are siting reports for thirty-three DEW Line stations across the North. The reports were prepared by Spartan Air Services Limited - Surveying Engineers, Canadian Areo Services Limited - Photometric Engineers and Knapper-Tippetts-Abbett-McCarthy Consulting Engineers as fulfilment of contractual obligations to Western Electric Company, Incorporated.

These reports were stored in a departmental conveyor station and had been neglected for many years. In a recent clean-up of this location the reports were identified and boxed for transfer to the Library and Archives Canada.
