Wolfred Nelson (1791-1863), un des principaux disciples de Louis Joseph Papineau, a joué un rôle prédominant dans la rébellion de 1837 et a fait partie du groupe de personnes exilées aux Bermudes en 1838. Deux artistes auraient été en exil avec lui : Jean Joseph Girouard et Robert Shore Milnes Bouchette. Selon Harper, ces deux artistes ont été exilés aux Bermudes; cela ne serait pas exact, selon le résultat de certaines recherches (voir les dossiers de ces artistes). Sur le plan du style, cette oeuvre ne ressemble pas aux oeuvres de Girouard et pourrait être par Bouchette. Le cadre n'est pas le cadre original; inscription estampillée au verso, h.d. :H.F.V./A./PARIS., Cadre ovale maintenant placé dans un cadre en bois extérieur, Transparent couleur : devant de l'oeuvre dans un cadre de métal ovale inséré dans un cadre extérieur en bois, Dans le registre d'acquisition, la date du 3 août 1939 est indiquée pour ce numéro; la date inscrite au crayon sur le support secondaire est le 5/8/39; numéro de référence au dossier : série C, numéro [5 biffé] 6.
