We know that William Macgillivray is the 3rd son of John and Isabella Macgillivray and not that of John and his Indian wife because William Macgillivray of John and his Indian wife died in 1832 before the invention of modern day photography let alone carte-de-visites which was discovered and patented in 1854. William MacGillivray born Mar. 29, 1835 and died July 18, 1915; 3rd son of John and Isabella MacGillivray; married Catherine McLennan
This carte-de-visite album consists of 50 folios into which 50 carte-de-visites were inserted, but of which 3 are missing. The owner of the album remains a mystery, but it was likely a member of the family of John and Isabella MacGillivray. The majority of the portraits are of the MacGillivrays, but there are also portraits of family friends and acquaintances.
This is volume 1 of this accession. The album is bound with hard leather with two metal clasps.
The MacGillivray Album is a carte-de-visite album bound with a hard leather cover with two clasps. There are 50 folios from which 3 of the cartes are missing. While the owner of the album is unknown, it is likely that this belonged to one of the MacGillivray family as the majority of the identified portraits are of family descendants of John and Isabella MacGillivrary.
