Publication of "The Harpoon of the Hunter" was an experiment in computerized composition, using an optical character-recognition system.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Markoosie, 1942- : Writer, pilot and translator, Markoosie Patsauq was born on the east coast of Hudson Bay in Inukjuak, Quebec in 1942 and attended high school in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. His book "The Harpoon of the Hunter" (1970) describes a young boy's initiation into manhood. Markoosie first published his story in the Native newsletter "Inuttituut" and later translated it for English readers. In 1971, Markoosie was invited by Jean Chrétien, then Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, to join the board of Panarctic Oils Limited, the federal government private industry exploration syndicate.
