This accession consists of operational subject files documenting all aspects of the work of the Citizenship office in Alberta and the Territories from the early 1960s to the late 1970s. The records include reference material on the organization of the Alberta office of the Citizenship Branch of the Department of Citizenship and Immigration (to 1966) and on its transfer to the Secretary of State thereafter; on office administration, finances and personnel; and on liaison with and grants to individual ethnic, native, womens', citizenship, language-training, and other cultural groups in Alberta, the Yukon and the N.W.T. There are a few records on immigration policy and cases, mainly in file blocks 1, 14 and 24. The bulk of the accession relates to individual organizations (blocks 9, 17, and 21 to 23), mainly those representing native Canadians. These files contain original correspondence and some copied material on the activities of the organizations, and on the handling of grant applications to the Citizenship Branch, for both core funding and special projects. For similar records see accession E86-87/035.
These records are being reviewed for archival value.
Since 2010, archival records are held at the Regional Service Centre in Winnipeg.
