The Bureau of Dangerous Drugs of the Drugs Directorate of the Health Protection Branch is responsible for licensing pharmaceutical companies to import, export, manufacture, and distribute narcotic, controlled, and restricted drugs for medical and scientific purposes, investigating infractions of the Narcotic Control Act, and compiling statistics on drug use in Canada.

These files, all from the 9644 block of the Department of National Health and Welfare central registry system, relate exclusively to the investigation and prosecution of crimes involving controlled drugs, such as the theft of narcotics from pharmacies, stolen prescription pads, and forged prescriptions. The files contain reports and lists of individual cases of crimes and correspondence between BDD headquarters, regional offices, and pharmacies.
