Accession consists of files of the Planning and Finance Service of Environment Canada (EC) arranged in the registry system in use at EC throughout the 70s and 80s.

Most records cover various administrative/internal services blocks (those between 1000 and 3682) and include: administration, organization, agreements, committees, boards, councils, commissions, foreign co-operation/liaison, surveys and studies, buildings, acquisitions, construction, vessels, boats, canoes, and press releases. One multi-part file (4266-60/U6) on Long Range Transport Air Pollution cooperation with the United States makes up the only files in the operational blocks.

Boxes 20 to 22 contain textual and architectural records on the construction and maintenance of buildings used by EC. Projects/buildings include: a Hull/Lucerne Environment Research Centre; a meteorological station (Clyde River, Northwest Territories); the Canadian Centre for Inland Waters (Burlington, Ontario) for the Inland Waters Directorate; Wastewater Treatment Facilities (Winnipeg, Manitoba) for the Freshwater Institute; a Prairie Wildlife Interpretation Centre (Goose Lake, Saskatchewan) and a Nature Interpretation Centre (Creston, BC) for the Canadian Wildlife Service.
