The first set are central registry system files. These are administrative files largely dealing with the ministry's liaison with associations, clubs, societies and councils. Other files focus on a particular area technological research, such as chemistry, economics, electronics and energy. A large number of files also document MOSST's involvement in the area of industrial policy, including tax policy, tax and grant incentives, the contracting out of federal government projects; role in the development of national, provincial and regional industrial action plans and policies. Finally, the central registry files also concern MOSST's Program Review and Assessment process. These records document MOSST's review, evaluation and recommendation on matters related to its own role and responsibilities (political, economic, security and research and development) in the area of federal science and technology policy and programs.
The second set of files are related to the Director, Government Branch and the Director, Industrial Branch. These files concern the development of various aspects of federal science and technology policy as well as the establishment of task forces, studies and projects on such issues as a National biotechnology strategy, energy issues, the health sciences, the development of National Centres of Excellence, as well as evaluations of studies done for the federal government or for MOSST.
Lastly, there are files from the Offices of the Industrial Branch and the Government Branch.
