The Health Protection Branch is responsible for protecting Canadians from the health hazards caused by foods, human and veterinary drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, food packaging and environmental contaminants. The Branch monitors manufacturers and vendors of food and drug products for compliance with various federal laws and regulations through laboratory testing and the investigations of its offices in the field. The Branch was previously known as the Food and Drug Division, then the Food and Drug Directorate.
