This accession consists of records created by the Farm Financial Programs Directorate of the former Department of Agriculture, now the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food. The Directorate was responsible for providing programs that would support, among other things, the Farm Improvement and Marketing Co-operatives Loans Act (1987).

The material within the boxes consists of AAFC headquarters poilcy and general files relating to the Farm Improvement and Marketing Co-operatives Loans Act (FIMCLA), and in particular information on its predecessors (such as the Farm Improvement Loans Act), as well as amendments and regulations. The predominant dates covered are 1994-1999. However, some files date from between the 1950s and 1980s. One file contains a copy of a 1944 Memorandum to Cabinet regarding the Farm Improvement Loans Act, as well as a copy of a pamphlet that describes the act in clear terms: that it was proclaimed on March 1, 1945 and that its purpose was to "designed to provide short term and intermediate credit to farmers." Other files contain information related to regulations of the Fisheries Improvement Loans Act which first came into force in 1955 and was amended from time to time until 1987, when the Small Businesses Loans Act was amended to include fishing as an eligible business enterprise. Most of the files are covered by the old AAFC file classification block 1871.

Note these boxes are a 5% random sampling, as recommended by RDA 2001/013, which deals with Farm Income Protection.
