The records in this accession consist of files created and maintained in the central registry of Maritime Command (MARCOM) as the record of Commander Maritime Command. The Commander has responsibility for all fleet operations on both coasts, including Canadian participation in international, NATO or North American defence exercises and operation, search and rescue activities, assistance to civil powers, and the Naval Reserve.
The records are arranged according to the National Defence file classification system as adopted by MARCOM. The records in this accession cover a wide range of operational and administrative subjects for the years 1987 to 1989.

These records were originally held in Nova Scotia. They were transferred to the National Capital Region in 2016 and are available for consultation there.
