This accession consists of records created at the Royal Roads Military College in Esquimalt British Columbia. In 1911 the Royal Naval College was established in Halifax but after the Halifax explosion in 1917 it was transferred to Esquimalt. The college closed in 1922 but was reopened as a training school for naval officers in 1940 and in 1942 it became a two year college. In 1976 the college became a degree granting institution offering undergraduate degrees in both Arts and Sciences, and in 1987 a Masters degree in Oceanography was added. The college was closed in 1995.
The records in this accession consist of the operational records of the college including Faculty Council minutes, Senate minutes, College Council minutes and the records of the Offices of the Principal and Commandant. In addition to the operational records, select records from the College's Special Collection were also transferred. Among this latter group of records are photographs and negatives numbering approximately 60,000 to 70,000.

Custodial history:

These records were originally held in British Columbia. They were transferred to the National Capital Region in 2016 and are available for consultation there.
