Accession consists of topographical survey maps of the Rocky Mountains created and/or maintained by the Topographical Surveys Branch of the Department of the Interior.

The accession includes, but is not limited to 2 sheets each of topographical survey maps dated 1888-1892 covering Kannanaskis (area #1), the Gap (area #2), Canmore (area #3), Spray River (area #4), Simpson's Pass (area #5), End Mountain (area #11), Saddle Mountain (area #12), Anthracite (area #13), Banff (area # 14), Pilot Mountain (area #15), Copper Mountain (area #16), The Devil's Head (area #22), Mount Aylmer (area #24), Fort Mile Creek (area #25), Castle Mountain (area #26), Eldon (area #27), Palliser (area #34), Sawback (area #35) and Baker Creek (area #36). Relief is indicated by contours, shading and spot heights.

Also included are 2 index pages, as well as symbol, sign and lettering pages covering the dates 1911-1932. Examples of information found on the maps: "pack trails," "over run by fire second growth of pine," "copper mines" and on the End Mountain sheet the location of the "Stoney Indian Reserve."
