This collection consists largely of file copies accumulated by various Clerks of the Privy Council and focuses on issues relating to the legislature, administration of the office, background on constitutional matters and the Great Seal of Canada. Many of the copies contain original marginalia written by significant individuals in the Canadian government. Numerous copies also contain original source references to Hansard, PCO files, orders-in-councils, etc. Included are letters dealing with exchanges between Clerks and Prime Ministers, Governors General on the subject of speeches, appointments and other functions. In addition, there are some original records, for example, correspondence relating to negotiations for the entry of Newfoundland into Confederation, and hand written letters on various topics.
