Canada was one of the founding members of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which was established in 1919. The ILO was designed to bring together labour, employers and government from all member nations and, for many years, Canada's participation in the succeeding years was left largely to the Department of Labour. The Department has also maintained close links with Commonwealth and other international groups and organizations.
This accession, consisting of records from the Labour Program of the Department of Labour, addresses and details the relations of the Department with these bodies. Although much of the accession pertains to co-operation with the United Nations, there are records, as well, relating to the Department's activities within the Commonwealth.
